Commonwealth Marriage Celebrants must complete 5 hours of ongoing professional development each calendar year.

Not completing your required OPD, without an approved exemption, can result in a penalty or de-registration as a marriage celebrant. Re-registration is a costly process so be responsible to meet your obligations.

OPD activities are delivered face-to-face for groups, by distance for individuals and as online activities with group support via CCN Forums.

The ongoing professional development activities must have the approval of the Attorney-General's Department.

All the OPD activities offered by these approved OPD Providers will meet the AGD requirements:

Note: You may choose to do your Compulsory unit and Elective units with different OPD providers.

Some other activities, such as a conference organised by a celebrant association, may also be approved. The Marriage Law and Celebrants Section lists these on the AGD's website.
