Save The Frogs
I personally support this charity because I am passionate about frogs, so much so I have five frog ponds in my backyard, they are all full of frogs and their tadpoles.
I started off with one small pond which was originally a fishpond. When the goldfish were finished I left the pond there, twelve months or so went by and I decided to clean the pond out, low and behold there was tadpoles in it!
That’s how it started. Over the years the frogs multiplied, when it rains they croak at night, more or less a “bonking” sound. I now have so many I am having trouble accommodating them, I have a large pond under a lillypilly pink cascade, and also a child’s sandpit I bought from Woolies for $14. They also move into my Waterlily pond, and I found eggs in a plant saucer which I transferred to an old baby bath and they are still multiplying!
I now have a total of five ponds full of frogs and their tadpoles. Their common name is “rocket frog”.
I live in the heart of Parramatta, a big city, and still the frogs are thriving!
Here's what the SAVE THE FROGS website says:
"Frog populations have been declining worldwide at unprecedented rates, and nearly one-third of the world’s amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Up to 200 species have completely disappeared since 1980, and this is NOT normal: amphibians naturally go extinct at a rate of only about one species every 500 years!!!
Amphibian populations are faced with an array of environmental problems, including pollution, infectious diseases, habitat loss, invasive species, climate change, and over-harvesting for the pet and food trades. Unless we act quickly, amphibian species will continue to disappear, resulting in irreversible consequences to the planet’s ecosystems and to humans. Frogs eat mosquitoes; provide us with medical advances; serve as food for birds, fish and monkeys; and their tadpoles filter our drinking water.
Plus frogs look and sound cool, and kids love them -- so there are lots of reasons to save the frogs!"
SAVE THE FROGS! is a worldwide movement dedicated to protecting the world's rapidly disappearing amphibian species.
Our mission is to protect amphibian populations and to promote a society that respects and appreciates nature and wildlife.
Our vision is a world in which not a single amphibian species is threatened with extinction.
