NSW Seniors Festival 2020

NSW Seniors Festival is happening during the week of 12-23 February.  The theme for this year’s festival is “Love to Celebrate”.  What a great topic for all of us at The Celebrants Network to embrace!

In the spirit of this year’s festival, The Celebrants Network and Celebrant Mel Lawson bring you 5 things to celebrate about getting older...

1.You know who you are and what you want.

No more teenage angst or mid-life existential crises!  Worries about what to study, where to work, what opportunities to follow have been sorted.  You have lived life, experienced the good and the bad and have learnt much about yourself and others along the way.  You can be comfortable in your own skin.  Celebrate yourself!

2.You have more time for learning and fun.

As you head into retirement, you can now do all those things you wished you had time for while working and bringing up your family.  Time for a U3A class, a coffee club or extreme adventure.  Or after years of running around frantically, you can now sit still.  Listening to music, meditating, or sitting in the park are now guilt-free pleasures.  Celebrate new opportunities!

3.You can teach others.

You have knowledge and skills in many different areas.  Why not share these with others?  Teaching is a satisfying and fun way to engage with your peers or the younger generations.  Think not only of the obvious skills you may have learned in your work or creative life.  Are you good at problem solving?  Managing conflict?  Finding the perfect hidden holiday spot?  Pass on your experience to others.   Celebrate your experience!

4.You don’t have to prove anything.

You don’t need to compete.  You don’t need to keep up with the Joneses.  You don’t need to have the latest fad or fashion.  (But if you want to, you can).  FOMO is not for you.  You’ve arrived – celebrate!

5.Discounts

Senior discounts are one way in which our community recognises the contribution of our older generation.  You have worked, developed, supported, and been part of your local area.  Now is the time for the community to give something back.  As a senior, you qualify for all sorts of discounts on travel, food and activities.  But it doesn’t end there – discounts are available on insurance, shopping, services and rentals.  Take a look at the Seniors Card Discount Directory – you’ll be amazed.  https://www.seniorscard.nsw.gov.au/discounts/discount-directory Celebrate your well-earned position in our community!

At The Celebrants Network, we also love to celebrate.  Talk to us about renewing your wedding vows, marking retirement, welcoming menopause or holding a special birthday celebration.

There are lots of concerts and events happening all around NSW for the Seniors Festival.  Check out the NSW Seniors Festival website to find out what’s in your area.  Go on, go out and celebrate!

Celebrate health

These are excellent points and good to be reminded sometimes of the good things about ageing, I agree with all you have said, Mel. Unfortunately our health can impact on whether we can enjoy our older years or not. I celebrate every day getting out of bed, having no pain and just being here.
